What are You Running From?

By: Ross Paterson

Check out our video, Work Gloves vs Running Shoes, for a new way to think about strengths and weaknesses on your team . . . and to laugh a bit in the process.

What work do you squeamishly run from?

We were working with a marketing and merchandising client on a strategic hire a few years ago. While ‘whiteboarding’ the work he wanted this new teammate to cover, we discovered it wasn’t really a job description or a role at all. Instead, it was a list of all the detail work from everywhere in the business – work this wildly creative entrepreneur ran from, not because he was scared, but because this work exposed all of his weaknesses.

When you are looking for that perfect SBX (Small Business Xcelerator) or CBX (Chief Business Xcelerator) to round out your team, make sure you know your weaknesses and blind spots. Our favorite tool for assessing humans is the DiSC and 12 Driving Forces assessment. Take a look at my key results below.

I am a decisive driver of results. I love fast-paced chaos, and big messes to fix. My blind spots and weaknesses are usually in my people and empathy skills. I prefer to start 10 new things and lack the profit generating follow-through that comes from efficient structure and process.

Now look at our Chief, Fanni. Her DiSC profile and motivators are EXACTLY opposite of mine. Her empathetic care for our teammates and clients and her desire for structure and harmony cover my blind spots perfectly.

Can you see your strengths and weaknesses this clearly? A simple assessment might create a massive breakthrough.

So, what work do you enjoy pulling on the gloves for? What work do you squeamishly run from?

How well do you know your team’s blind spots . . . or your own?
We can administer the DISC and 12 Driving Forces assessments to get your team operating in strengths and covering weaknesses.

You are probably closer to your next breakthrough than you imagine.
We will look forward to seeing you on the Xtra Mile.
