Welcome back to our Business Development Series for your small business.

Take a quick look at our 2-minute video that sets the stage – Magic Feathers and Easy Buttons

Marketing is a generous act of helping someone solve a problem.

THEIR PROBLEM!

We experienced real Xceleration at XM Brands when we began to internalize the idea that marketing is about giving, not getting.  As you reflect on your own marketing activities, be aware of 3 ideas that will dramatically impact your success.
  1. Be generous. If you have great ideas, and unique solutions, don’t hold back. Find a way to give generously to the markets and communities you want to serve.
  2. ‘What we sell’ vs ‘Why they buy’. Check the language on all your marketing (and see who is marketing effectively to you). If you are talking about what you do, flip the script and design messages that talk about them, their pain, and their problems.
  3. Marketing is not linear. Multiple activities using different domains to serve your ideal clients will help you develop sustainable revenue (see Previous Blog and Video on ideal clients).

True story – We had two different digital marketing agencies engaged in our leadership forums in 2023. Both were using cold outreach calling as one of their business development activities. What does that tell you?

Take Action. Measure your marketing for the first half of the year – Download our Free Tool. See which activities are bearing the most fruit. Are you spending money/time/resources on marketing that isn’t working? How can you adjust your approach in the 2nd half to be more generous, more client problem-focused, and more versatile?

You are probably closer to your next revenue breakthrough than you imagine. There are no magic feathers or easy buttons for marketing on the Xtra Mile.
