“I wanna talk about me
Wanna talk about I
Wanna talk about number one
Oh my me my
What I think, what I like, what I know, what I want, what I see
I wanna talk about me”
I Wanna Talk About Me, Toby Keith, Country Musician
In last week’s blog, we talked about the human need for security and connection. The first level of connection we need to make on the path to building #XtraMile teams is the connection to the individual.
Are you intimately familiar with the people on your team? Not romantically of course, but do you love them enough to be curious about their dreams, motivators, personality style, strengths, and passions?
When we know these things about our team mates, we can make connections. Connect their passions to the purpose of the business. As much as possible, align their personality and strengths with the roles they are assigned. Develop them in areas where they have dreams and natural motivators. Lastly, make sure you show them appreciation in a way that is most meaningful to them (see our download for tools).
If people don’t feel safe and connected with their leaders, they won’t bring their best engagement to their team or the organization’s goals.
“Our success in influencing or elevating others is in proportion to their belief of our belief in them.” Henry Drummond.
