Bad Leadership is Scary

Does your business have a villian?

Bad Leadership is Scary

By: Ross Paterson

Following a bad leader can be a nightmare.

Untrained and incompetent leaders can cost your company scary amounts of money. The most obvious impact will be in turnover. A recent survey on LinkedIn showed that, out of almost 100,000 votes, 71% left their current jobs because of bad management/work culture.

Most young/new leaders and managers don’t want to be the villain, but they struggle with the ability to FOCUS. From over a decade of Xcelerating results in organizations large and small, here are three areas where we can teach leaders new skills:

  1.  Prioritization: Leaders must make decisions about priorities every day. When the newest email or text becomes their highest priority, there’s a problem.
  2. Time Management: There is never enough time in the day, but there are 168 hours every week. They have time to do everything in 168 hours. If they are not planning for their week, there’s a problem.
  3. Delegation: As soon as they decide to take on a leadership role, it no longer matters how much work they can get done. What matters is how well they get work done through others. If they frequently say, “It’s just easier if I do it myself,” there’s a problem.

We have good news for you! With training, good tools, and inspiration everyone can improve results in prioritization, time management, and delegation.

If you want to strengthen your manager’s leadership power in the business, don’t be the villain, make an investment in them.
